JLT Mobile Rugged Computers Validated as Navis Ready
Entire VERSO range passes Navis Ready validation testing against Navis N4 TOS
Växjö, Sweden, 2 September 2015 * * * JLT Mobile Computers, Swedish developer and manufacturer of rugged computers for demanding environments, announces that its VERSO range of rugged computers has been officially and independently validated as ready for integration into any shipping port or terminal running the Navis N4 2.6 Terminal Operating System (TOS).
Navis Ready is a validation program, open to all vendors of handheld devices and other hardware technologies intended for use within a container terminal operating environment. By submitting its VERSO range to Navis scrutiny and achieving validation, JLT is confirming to customers that they can have confidence in the VERSO range of rugged computers — including the new, compact VERSO+ 10 — and that devices will integrate reliably within a Navis N4 2.6 TOS environment at both the hardware and software level.
The VERSO Series and VERSO+ 10 computers passed the standard tests for Vehicle Mounted Terminals (VMTs), the validation focused on the ECN4 business flows in a container terminal, which included tests for JLT’s VMTs and ECN4 end-to-end CHE flows. Copies of the validation reports are available on request.
Access to and confidence in reliable IT technology is critical in a marine port and terminal environment, as business is won and retained based on up-time and the efficiency with which containers are moved from ship to shore, and on to their final destination. The use of rugged computers and wireless communication promotes productivity and efficiency in any sector, but in shipping ports and terminals the harsh environment presents specific challenges to both the hardware and the software. JLT’s VERSO range was designed to work in such harsh environments, whether installed in a crane or truck, and has, once again, been independently proven to be up to the challenge.
“We have validated the JLT VERSO Series which represents one of the most recent designs in this segment and has been recognised by port customers around the world,” said Sanket Sheth, Director, Global Technical Services, Navis. “The JLT devices passed the standard user tests for Vehicle Mounted Terminals and would be suitable in a terminal operational environment.”
“When we modernized our port operations and implemented Navis N4 earlier this year, we selected the JLT VERSO mobile computers based on recommendations from other port customers,” said Capt. Jan Nowak, Director of ACT Burgas. “Although JLT was not yet validated at the time we made our choice, we are pleased to now have confirmation of what we already know – that JLT delivers on its promises.”
‘“Whether tracking cargo through a port or enabling the automation of processes or equipment, the demands on computer hardware and wireless connectivity in ports are substantially higher than in the average operating environment,” commented Per Holmberg, CEO, JLT Mobile Computers. “Validation and acceptance into the Navis Ready Program demonstrates that JLT’s mobile computers meet and exceed these demands.”
Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, has for more than 26 years provided operational technologies that unlock greater performance and efficiency for the world’s leading terminal operators. By becoming validated against Navis N4, JLT’s customers are assured that the VERSO range will provide an optimal customer experience and enable marine terminal operators worldwide to maximise performance and reduce risk.
